Day 9 - Something I'm Proud Of In The Past Few Days

As a mother, I'm proud that my son has graduated from pre-school to and from HS graduating into the real life world of work. I'm proud that my son has been blesssed to be a part of the 89% employed vs. the 11% unemployed. He has goals and resposiblities and he's striving to meet them both. Proud Moma.

Day 8 My Short Term Goals for 11/11

I'm living life on auto pilot and need to get back in the driver seat. I have analyzed things in my life and know that I'm cruisin at a high altitude on auto-pilot and need to swith gears ASAP. I reflect and realize that my best days are when I'm striving to be my best self by staying spiritually connected and grounded to a higher level, exercising my body and mind. So as of 11/1/11 I have created a list of goals to back on track and live and enjoy the life that was gifted to me.

  1. Not just go back to church, but to become a part of my church home. To strengthen and develop relationships in this area of my life.

  2. Get movin @ the gym and by living an active lifestyle. I need to lose what I regained and continue to work on gettin to my ideal goal weight.

  3. Tithe and save 10%. My grandmother always told me "You can do more with 80 than what you can do with 100. God has proved to me continuosly that robbing Him of his 10 does nothing for me.

  4. Juice & cut out the white stuff. Cleanse and lose weight

  5. Throw out 30 things. Not just too clear out the clutter but to focus on keeping only things that serves a purpose and the things I love.

Day 7- Someone Who Has The Biggest Impact On Me

Linda V. McClellan. My grandmother, shero, my mother. Like so many children who has been affected by parental drug abuse, I was no exception. The difference for me is my grandmother. Though she raised seven of her own children, there was no hesitation when she continued to raise me when my mother no longer could. Not only did she take me in, she supported and grew me into the woman that I am today and the better womon that I will become. She was firm and fair in the same light. She was always open and conversated with me candidly. She played a very strong part as I raise my own children, even vital when they were young and I tried to do the right thing by working and or going to school. Till this day I wonder what I would have done if I didn't have her to help me with my children when I was trying to better myself. I have the best relationship with her that any two people can have. I have been with her all 38 years of my life and it frightens me to think what I will do without her. I need her, she keeps going and she keeps me strong. She has shared so much of herself with me that has strengthened our circle our bond so solid that nothing could possibly shake it. I'm only highlighting a fraction of what she means to me, but her greatness has spread through our entire family. My grandmother has been able to connect and have seperate relationships with each of her 7 children, 20+ grandchildren, and 20 + greatgrandchildren. Because of her I'm coming to accept my role as a grandparent knowing that she will be blessed to see the beginning of her fourth generation in just a few short months. I always said "I got a down ass grandma on ma team" and knowing that, nothing can stop me.

Day 6 - My Favorite Super Hero

Wonder Woman is my super hero of choice. She represents strength and is the leader of the pack of female super heros as she still was in woman character. All she needed was her gear and she could handle everything. It's funny to think and or admit that clothes, uniforms, and or hats transforms us. As a woman I know there are many different suits/hats that I must wear. Even as a mother if I get to dressed up, my boys question "where you goin" lookining me up and down- I guess not looking like what moma mode looks like. As a supervisor there's a professional look that I must carry out. As a sister and friend I gear up for those roles as well. The company of a man also alters the look or style. Don't go to church lookin like you just left the club, even if you did. Only a Wonder Woman can pull off so many roles and responsiblities to ensure that all surrounding people and environments are better because of her, with only a simple twirl and a change of gear. Real life, last year I bought a nice fossil watch and I promise when I put that thing on it amps up my Wonder Woman skills. Just like Wonder Woman a raise of the wrist and I can block out anything. I enjoy being the Wonder Womanthat I am.

Outt Place, Displaced, Misplaced; What A Disgrace

I'm a child misplaced

A disgrace

Of the wrong race

So what I do wrong many see ok

It's become normal to be 16with two kids

With two different fathers they will never know

It's become normal for me to teach my daughter to

make it on her own

But never let my son grow old

Its the usual to tell a child to live for today because

there is no tomorrow

Its the usual for a child to live their mother's

sorrow

Two children who were misplaced

Because the father is out of place

Which leaves the mother displaced

So the son is loved and the daughter is raised

And becausse we are taught Its ok

We didn't notice the similarity of the method from

slavery days

Ensenada, Mexico- LaBufadora. One of three blow holes. A picture is worth a thousand words and I'll let this one speak for itself. Enough said.

Day 4, A Habit I Wish I Didn't Have

A habit I wish I didn't have, hm which one do I choose? I'm going to have to go with procrastination. Procrastination has caused me serious set backs in life and it is extremely expensive.

Day 2 The Meaning Behind My Blog Name

This is fairly simple, my original blog name is Lady N Red. The name represents me quite precisely. I drive a red car and truck, red ipod, red phone, red computer bag, red purse, etc.... and by default I had to change my name when I created another blog which I titled The Red Box Lady. I'm an avid scrapper and one of my totes is, yea you guessed it-RED. When ever I go out to scrap I get major attention from this box which turns my scrap friend into a super hater Lol. So as you can pictue I'm the lady in Red.

Young, Black and Amazing

To all the twentysomethings in my life;

1. Ask yourself, What do I want to be doing at 40?
2. Make a plan and work it. You can tweak it along the way.
3. Reach out. You don't have to do it alone. We're here for you.
4. Save a little bit every week, even a single dollar.
5. Don't accept negative things people say about you. If they have an observation, tell them to make it constructive.
6. You are responsible for your actions.
7. Video dancer is not a profession.
8. Be aware of the ways pop culture may try to diminish you.
9. Be patient with people's short comings but not their bad behavior.
10. Know that you can love someone and still walk away.
11. Any job is better than no job. It's not forever. It's merely a stepping-stone.
12. Any man is not better than no man.
13. Men think about sex a lot. What's on your mind?
14. Whatever you dream there is already a Black Woman who has already done it.
15. You can do it, too.

A Good Woman

A good woman knows God. She knows that with God the world is her playground, but without God she will just be played with.
A good woman is proud. She respects herself & others. She is aware of who she is. She niether seeks definition from the person she's with, nor does she expect them to read her mind. She is quite capable of articulating her needs.
A good woman is hopeful. She is strong enough to make all her dreams come true. She knows love, therefore she gives love. She recognizes that her love has great value & must be reciprocated. If her love is taken for granted it soons disapear.
A good woman has a dash of inspiration & a dabble of endurance. She knows that she will have to inspire others to reach the potential God gave them.
A good woman knows her past, understands her present & forces toward the future.
A good woman does not live in fear of the future because of her past. Instead, she understands that her life experiences are merely lessons meant to bring her closer to self-knowledge & unconditional self-love.
Striving to be A Good Woman.

I APOLOGIZE

I apologize black woman for all the seen & unseen lies, for the heartache and pain that brought tears to your eyes.
I apologize black woman for not being true from the start, for running away from you, leaving a hole in your heart. For ignoring your feelings & pushing them aside, because I was arrogant & pumped with pride.
I apologize for making promises I couldn't keep, for building a foundation on trechery & deceit.Being selfish & inconsiderate, I did what I wanted to do,without thinking of you.
I apologize for not holding you through restless nights and stormy days, for my foolish thoughts & immature ways.Instead of carrying your love with me, I just threw it on the shelf, after we made love I turned away, only thinking of myself. You cried your heart for me, while I was out running wild & loose, I destroyed the essence of your love with physical, mental, & emotional abuse.I gave you hell black woman by giving up when times got rough, I didn't slap you, push you, I neglected you-& that's bad enough! Now I see why you build a wall around yourself, it is me you despise, but that's the price that I have to pay for all the times I wore a diguise.I pray to God that one day you will realize, that I LOVE YOU BLACK WOMAN & I APLOLOGIZE.
Apology accepted Black Man

Just Because

Just because no one has been fortunate enough to realize what a gold mine you are, doesn't mean you shine any less.
Just because no one has been smart enough to figure out that you can't be topped, doesn't stop you from being the best.
Just because no one has come along to share your life, doesn't mean that day isn't coming.
Just because no one has made this race worthwhile, doesn't give you permision to stop running.
Just because no one has realized how much of an awesome woman you are, doesn't mean they can affect your femininity.
Just because no one has came along to take the loneliness away, doesn't mean you have to settle for lower quality.
Just because no one has shown up to love you on your level, doesn't mean you have to sink to theirs.
Just because you deserve the very best there is, doesn't mean that life is always fair.
Just because God is still preparing your king, doesn't mean that you're not already a queen.
Just because your situation doesn't seem to be progressing right now, doesn't mean you need to change a thing.
Keep shining
Keep runningKeep hoping
Keep praying
Keep being exactly what you already are;
COMPLETE!

A Woman Of Strength

A strong woman works out everyday to keep her body in shape... but a woman of strength kneels in prayer to keep her soul in shape.A strong woman isn't afraid of anything... but a woman of strength shows courage in the midst of fear.A strong woman want let anyone get the best of her... but a woman of strength gives the best of herself to everyone.A strong woman makes mistakes & avoids the same in the future... a woman of strength realizes life's mistakes can also be God's blessings & capitalizes on them.A strong woman walks surefootedly... but a woman of strength knows God will catch her when she falls.A strong woman wears the look of confidence on her face... but a woman of strength wears grace.A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey... but a woman of strength has faith in the journey that she will become strong.Striving to move from a strong woman to a woman of strength

Dear Friend

This morning when I woke up, you were on my mind. I could not help but remember what you did to me. Then I thought about the saying, "Don't get mad get even." & I decided to do just that. Matter of fact, this is a "Get Even Letter." It is time I "Get even" with you for being a blessing to me! So often we focus on the negative things people have done in our life and we want to get even with them. I chose to focus on the positive & take a moment to thank as many people as I can for being in my life for a Reason or for a Season.Maybe we don't talk everyday, or maybe I only see you once a year, but God put you in my life for a Season. Maybe we talk often and we see each other daily. Well, God placed you in my life for a Reason. Whichever the case, I am grateful for what you have done for me.Do you remember the time(s) you encouraged me, called me, prayed for me, fed me, visited me,laughed with me, made me laugh, helped me, drove me somewhere, cooked for me, listened to me, & cared for me when I was sick? Do you remember the time when you trusted me, respected me, & believed in me? I do, I REMEMBER! I'll never forget!I want to thank you for those times. I know I can never repay you for all the things you have done for me, but God will reward you for every deed. I can however, "Get Even" with you with LOVE. I hope that you know that I am praying for you, & I believe in you too. If there is anything I can ever do for you, please let me know.I hope this "GET EVEN LETTER" will remind you that your living is not in vain. The Word of God says in Matthew 25:40; "In as much as you done it into the least of my little ones, you have done it onto me." Stay encouraged & remember that you are loved. Jesus loves you & so do I. May God continue to richly bless you & keep you in his perfect will.Your Friend, Alondra

"Daily Affirmations" I Am Promising Myself

I am so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind. I am talking health, happiness and prosperity to every person I meet. I am making all my friends feel that there is something in them.I am looking at the sunny side of everything & making my optimism come true. I am thinking only of the best, working only for the best & expecting only the best. I am just as enthustiastic about the success of others as I am about my own. I am forgetting the mistakes of the past & pressing on the greater achievements of the future. I am wearing a cheerful countenance at all times & giving every living creature I meet a smile. I am giving so much time to the improvement of myself that I have no time to criticize others. I am to large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, & to happy to permit the presence of trouble.

21 Things Black People Should Do...

6). Subscribe to a magazine; EBONY, JET, BLACK ENTERPRISE, ESSENCE. Then subscribe to one of the weeklies; TIME, NEWSWEEK, or U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT. After learning what's going on in OUR world, learn about the whole world it is after all, your wold.

20). P.U.S.H Pray Until Something Happens!
21). In all that you do, get understanding, (turn off the T.V, & open a book). Don't just read this, Do It & encourage others. Have a blessed day.

Comes The Dawn...

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and sharing a soul, and you learn that love doesn't mean learning and company doesn't mean security. And you begin to learn that kisses are not contracts and presents arn't promises. And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open. With the grace of a woman, not the grief of a child. And you learn to build all of your roads today because tomorrow's ground is to uncertain for plans, and futures have a way of falling down in mid flight. After awhile, you learn that even sunshine burns if you get to much.So you plant your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers. And you learn that you really can endure, that you really are strong, and you really do have worth. And you learn and you learn...With every good-bye, you learn.

THE CLOCK

The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop at late or early hour.To lose one's wealth is sad indeed. To lose one's health is more. But to lose one's soul is such a loss that no man can restore.Blessed are the dead who died in the Lord. Rev. 14:13

ATTITUDE

"The longer I live, the more I realized the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more importanct than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one thing we have, and that is our attitude... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it."by Charles swindoll

A LETTER FROM MY MOTHER

January 2007-Girl I got some bad news for you. Brace yourself, and please don't scream or cry. ThePillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeatedpokes in the belly. Let moma know, he was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including; Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack,The California Raisins, Betty Crocker, The Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave sitewas piled high with FLOURS. Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy asa man who never knew how much he was KNEADED. Doughboy ROSE quickly in show business, butlater life was filled with many TURNOVERS. He was not considered a very SMARTCOOKIE,wasting much of his DOUGH on HALF-BAKED schemes. Despite being a little FLAKEY at times, hestill was a crusty old man and was considered a great ROLL model for millions. Doughboy issurvived by his wife PLAY DOUGH, 2 children; John Dough & Jane Dough, plus they had 1 in theOVEN. He is also survived by his elderly father POP TART. The funeral was held @ 3:50 for about20 minutes.Love Mom

Fasionista Diva, always been into fashion, but like so many women who are blessed with a family, home and a career may have experienced a fashion rut as I have. I want even mention the weight gain and the struggle to get it off ya back. My quirky tv show to watch while most is checkin in on DHW of Where Eva, I like to tune into What Not To Wear. I also see how much $$$ they spend on clothes and always feel not only can I match the high end outfit I can get it at fractions of the cost. So here is my spin on Beauty On A Budget. For all ma women do yourself a favor and go get a bra fittin. An older gentleman once told me "That a woman only feels as good as she looks underneath." Hey women take out some time and $ and spend them both on yourself every now and then. The people we take care of will understand and even appreciate it. Head -to-Toe fit $140 feelin and lookin GREAT, Priceless!!!!

My NOOK

Ok this is the NOOK by Barnes&Noble. This is my bestest toy ever. One of my many treats to myself. Anyhoo this gadget is the ipod of books but way easier to DL my books than my music. Still haven't added music to my ipod on my own. Had this for a year and a couple months now and have already DL 106 books, read 9 and reading at least 5. Yes I am an avid reader and this came right in time because I had began to question myself as to where would I store anotha book because there is really no more room on my 3 bookshelves that stands 6ft. tall. Amoir is overloaded I even utilize a shelf at work for my own personal books. So "This Right Here" also serves as a storage solution. The great plus is that the books are always cheaper and you can share your books with your friends who also have the NOOK. It has 1000's of free books as well. HAPPY READING!!!!!!

From your Fashionista DIVA, ok ladies lets add some color to our lives as well as our wardobe. Black pants do not change my size 10 pants and neither does white for that matter. A parent of mine was shock to see me in color one day and told me that I only wore black. Not realizing this was the case I went home and searched for color and I must say she was right. Black, browns and gray. Wow. I guess I was in daily mourning, so glad to re-discover the joys of color and prints. Hell I did't even wear black to my mother's funeral. She was such a firecracker I asked all who honored her to wear red. Mix & match the old with the new and the expensive/inexpensive items. I found a Fossil watch that makes me feel like Wonder Woman when I put it on. It compliments who I am. It's larger than your average ladies watch but not as big as a man's I guess that's for my inner tom boy. It got enough bling for the girly/girl that I'm letting shine. Dressy yet casual can be worn with anything. Accessorizing also makes a big difference. I wear earrings daily again, this is wear I mix in the cheap. I often lose earrings, so I never spend more than $10 for a pair and that's pricey. Jackets, they just tend to pull a fit together and since I'm always cold this is a plus. Till next time stay fasionable

Ok, back with a remix. Mixing the old & the new. When all I wanna be is comfy, this is the fit I go to. It's all old but oh so comfortable. Jacket, leggins, and dress top all for under $40. Toss on the $50 new boots total fit $90 a deal, comfy & cute, priceless. Add your accessories and presto- a comfy fit that you still look good in. Damn I don't like havin to follow a dress code especially since it elinated my favs like jeans. But when I see folks out in public, in business arenas I truly understand.

JUST FOR TODAY

Just for today- I will have program. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry & indecision.Just for today- I will have a quiet half hour all by myself & relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective of my life.Just for today-I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful & to believe that as I give to the wolrd, so the world will give to me.Just for today -I will try to live through this day only, & not tackle all my problems at once. I can do something for 12 hours that would appal me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.Just for today-I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."Just for today-I will adjust myself to what is, & not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my "luck" as it comes, & fit myself to it.Jut for today- I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought & concentration.Just for today- I will exrcise my soul in three ways : I will do somebody a good turn, & not get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two things I don't want to do-just for exercise. I willnot show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.Just for today- I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, keep my voice low, be courteous, criticize not one bit. I won't find fault with anything, nor try to improve or regulate anybody but myself

Check It Out

Right now I'm reading Sista Let Me Tell Ya, Bruh If Only You Knew. Very good book. One that gets you thinking beyond what you are reading. I'm no major history buff at all, actually I must say I never even liked the subject; then and or now. As I often say reading is FUNDAMENTAL-so as I lay in bed reading I stop, get up and google the infamous Willie Lynch letter: The Making of a Slave. I've heard about this letter but never checked into it, until this morning. I read what came up and it was enough to shed some light on things that our culture face today. I'd be the first to admit that I would say "The Past Is The Past, move on brotha" but reading part of this letter has me with a different attitude. I'm feeling like Spike Lee- "WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!" I wonder if we are traveling backwards instead of forward, if nothing else it sure is a vicious circle. To all my independent ladies we have been the target and a major part of a plan set in motion 300 years ago that is in full affect today. DAMN!!!!! We got punked. Check It Out.

If this picture didn't generate so many laughs I wouldn't have posted. My girls and I hangin out in Ensenada on our way back to the ship. We were enjoying and entertining each other with our very own photo shoot. So from ANTM to Gangsta Gangsta flics, I had to show em how it's done. Alright ladies, here's the famous penn pose. Any reason why they questioned my past where- abouts. If laughter really is the best medicine, I cured my girls of anything that may have ailed them including myself.

A New Day

Happy Sunday

“I dare you to move / Like today never happened before” – Switchfoot

I don’t think we take enough advantage of new days. Think about it. Whether you noticed or not, you got a second chance this morning. You were given another 24 hours to make the most out of your life, to right any wrongs and move forward despite any setbacks that came your way. New days are by far the best gifts we can receive in this lifetime.

“Weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5
This verse perfectly illustrates why new days are awesome. Not only are we given a second shot at life, we get to heal up from whatever hurt us yesterday. That’s where the joy comes in. Bad day at the office? Fight with the spouse? Made a huge mistake? Tomorrow, you can let it go and start fresh. That thought alone is enough to make you happy in the morning.

“It’s a brand new day / For the first time / In such a long, long time / I know I’ll be okay” – Joshua Radin

Every new day gives you a chance to shift your perspective. You can change your thoughts from negative to positive. If you were down and out yesterday, today you can be an optimist and believe that things will turn around. And no matter how you fail or fall short today, guess what? You’ve got another chance to make it right tomorrow.
My friends, this is the only October 23, 2011, that there will ever be. Once it’s over, it’s gone for good. So, live it as though it’s never happened before and won’t happen again.
"May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.. It is there for each and every one of us."
