The Platform

Between 1882 and 1901 over a hundred lynchings, almost all of them of African Americans, occurred each year, with several years exceeding over two hundred. Lynchin allowed whites to retain a measure of controll by instilling considerable fear among the Black community. By the early 1890's a pattern appeared. More lynchings tended to take place during the hotter months with July being the most popular and most took place either at or near the alleged crime. Areas undergoing rapid or extreme ecnomic and political changes were moe likely to experience lynchings, and once onelynching took place, more usually followed. Immedately after a lynching tensions remained hgh and the Black residential and commercial areas of the city often were burned and looted. Loal authorities, if they did not actively assist in it, usually did nothing to stop lynching. Officials at the highest level of southern of the practice. Cole Blease, for example, a former govenor in South Carolina, planted the finger of a lynched man in the gurernatorial garden. (From 1001 Things Everyone Should know About African American History)

Day 21 A Picture Of Something That Makes Me Happy

Much of my happiness come from the family that I am blessed with. Being together and connecting the way we do inspires me to be all that I can be. It's also rewarding to know that we all enjoy the connection that has been created amongst us. I'm also proud that I have instilled the love for our family into my boys.

Day 20 Someone I See Myself Marrying In The Future

This is a far look into the future. I'm not with anyone at this moment in my life but I know that I will be. The person is someone that I will learn from, grow and have fun with. We will engage in fire conversations that will carry on for hours. He will see, appreciate, nurture and enjoy the beauty within me. He will pronounce, protect & provide for me spiritually, emotionally and mentally. Most of all his respect will never cease. I'm looking at the man in my future.

Day 19 My Many Nicknames & Why

Buffy-At first I referred to others as "Yo Buff, Yo Buff, Yo, Yo, Yo Buff" from the movie Krush Groove. I guess I said it so much my uncle Charles stated calling me Buffy.

Doone Cookie-Called by Bouie/Lona Doone-Called by Max from the Lorna Doone Cookies

Lonnie- guess the shortest you could come up with for Alondra. Called by my grandmother & Phyllis.

Dune Buggy Willie- from the cartoon called by Chip

Crazy AA- Given to me by Cookie in jr. high for being crazy ass Alondra

Sexxy Chocolate- yes that's me because that's what I am.
I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration;I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations,it is my response that decides weather a crisis is escaladed or de-escalated,and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat ppl as they are,we make them worse. If we treat ppl as they ought to be ,we help them become what they are capable of becoming....REAL TALK
